International post-doc wanted – project starting March 2015

August 26, 2014

*** candidate now selected for this project proposal – follow for upcoming opportunities  ***

I am currently writing a project to be funded (hopefully!) by the Walloon Region, in Belgium. The project is partly confidential at this stage. I can say it involves a partnership with a local company. It will concern the preparation of new nanostructured basic heterogeneous catalysts. We plan to make use of some industrial materials and to implement advanced sol-gel methods in the catalyst preparation. The catalysts will be used in a model reaction for biomass conversion.

Some practical info:

A post-doc candidate must be identified at the submission stage. Deadline: October 15.

The candidate must come from a foreign country (may not have been working in Belgium lately) and hold a PhD degree.

The candidate will be working in our lab, at the IMCN, UCL, but will also spend some time at the company.

If accepted, the projects would start in March 2015.

Salary is very comfortable. A travelling allowance is offered too to allow the candidate to go and see his/her family some times.

At the present stage, there is no guarantee to get funded. Success will depend on the quality of the project and of the candidate. Decision is made in January.

Experience in materials chemistry, catalysis (reactor, GC, MS, etc.), characterization of solid divided materials (chemi- and physisorption, TEM, XRD, XPS).

Experience in industrial chemistry.

Autonomy, ability to take initiatives and to work in a team.

Some relevant scientific publications.

Good English (and French might help for the everyday life in Louvain-La-Neuve).

If you are interested (holding a PhD degree, not working in Belgium, ready to work on the project writing in the next weeks, ready to start working in March 2015), please send me a CV and a short introduction letter ( I’ll get back to you with more information and we can organize a Skype interview.
