Application for a post-doctoral position

February 7, 2020

Post-doctoral position at UCLouvain and Dequenne Chimie available through an application to the BEWARE Fellowship Academia program

The BEWARE Fellowships 2 program (for BElgian WAllonia REsearcher) is cofunded by the Marie Actions Skłodowska-Curie of the European Commission (COFUND – contract 847587).

IMPORTANT NOTE: the position is not funded yet! We are looking for the right candidate to apply for the fellowship. The BEWARE application will be a joined proposition between three parties: UCLouvain (Prof. Damien Debecker), Dequenne Chimie (SME Company, Dr. Makhlouf Amoura) and a post-doc candidate who fulfills all the eligibility criteria (see below).

The goal of this three-year project is to develop a better understanding of the mechanisms of formation of (pseudo)boehmite and alumina particles during spray drying processing and during thermal treatments. With this in hands, we intent to target materials with improved performance for applications as heterogeneous catalysts, catalyst supports, and abrasives. The project will also target the development of new strongly basic catalysts starting from specific inorganic by-products available at the company. Targeted catalytic reactions will focus on the upgrading of bio-based molecules. The project will have both fundamental and applied aspects and the targeted deliverables are both scholarly publications and industrial valorization.

We are looking for a motivated researcher with strong background in the fields of heterogeneous catalysis, inorganic materials, chemical engineering and/or process engineering. The candidate will work 50% at the company and 50% at the University. The candidate should demonstrate ability to conduct research both in autonomy and in the framework of a multidisciplinary team. Interest for industrial process and innovation valorization is a plus. The candidate must be fluent in English (French is a bonus but is not required). Ability to communicate scientific results in both oral and written form is a must.

  • The candidate must hold a PhD degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, bio-engineering, physical chemistry, or similar.
  • All nationalities, including Belgian nationals, are considered. However, the researcher must not have resided in Belgium more than 12 months, on a professional basis, over the last three years, at the time of submission.
  • The candidate should show commitment to accept the position if the fellowship is granted.
  • The candidate must have a driving license that is valid in Belgium (or commit to obtain one at the beginning of the project).

Send a CV and a motivation letter to Makhlouf AMOURA ( and Damien Debecker ( by February 28. Adding a recommendation letter is optional.
